The consequences of the myth of romantic love are both beautiful and ugly. At times, we believe in the myth, and then it becomes reality; we live it, only to lose it, renounce it, and despise it, and so the cycle continues. During this struggle, we want to untangle ourselves from the familiar, offered, learned patterns of our environment, primarily those of our parents. Because of all this, each of us is, at certain moments, the Beloved, while at others, the Mother. The moment you confront this text, you must admit to yourself that you are often also the Unloved, or the Monster. From the perspective of a woman, a romantic woman and a director, I find myself stirred and moved by intimate texts about real people; in my opinion, this can be the most political, most subversive act of authorship in theater, if one is sincere.
